New Year’s Eve Bash and Midnight Mass this Thursday, 12/31

Thursday, December 31st: Ring in the New Year right, as Christ in the City and St. Louis Bertrand Young Adults host the 2016 Young Adults New Year’s Eve Bash and Midnight Mass. Starting at 8:00pm on December 31st, the bash will be held in O’Brien Hall of the parish center (3rd floor). Food, drinks, and various activities will be available, but feel free to bring your own. Following the bash, at 11:45pm, we will head to the church for a candlelit Midnight Mass, celebrated by Fr. Joseph-Mary Hertzog, OP. The Te Deum will also be sung in thanksgiving for favors granted in 2015 before Mass, with the Veni Creator sung after Mass. Since the Mass will be on January 1, this will fulfill the obligation for the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. If you have any questions, please e-mail Trevor Mahoney (trevor[dot]mahoney[at]uwalumni[dot]com).

Some practical considerations:  If you are arriving after 9pm, please park in the lot across from the Church (east side of 6th St) or the lot behind the priory (enter off of St Catherine’s).  To enter the parish center, please use the door located closest to the church (north side of the parish center).  The gates of the parking lot will be closed, and this will be the only way to get into the parish center (for security reasons).  If you are only attending the Mass, the church doors will be unlocked by 11:45pm.

Parish Event – Guadalupe: The Miracle and the Message

61PDfEKwVkL._SY445_On Monday, December 14th, Fr. Joseph-Mary Hertzog, OP will be presenting the film “Guadalupe: The Miracle and the Message” at 7:00pm in O’Brien Hall (in the parish center).

The most important event in the evangelization of the New World occurred in December 1531. Over the course of four days, the Virgin Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, appeared to an indigenous convert named Juan Diego. As a result of this encounter, and the image miraculously imprinted on Juan Diego’s cloak, nine million Native Americans embraced the Catholic faith, and the Americas began its transformation into “the Catholic hemisphere.”
Guadalupe: The Miracle and the Message traces the history of this transformative event from the 16th century to the present. Featuring interviews with leading theologians, historians and experts on the scientific inquiries into the miraculous image, this gripping 58-minute film explores both the inexplicable mysteries behind the image, and the continued relevance of the Guadalupe apparition to the modern world.
